Should be sunny weather so plan to attend the Precision Manure Application Demo Day on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 from 12:30 to 4:00 pm at the farm of Jake Kraayenbrink, 8182 Concession 16, Mapleton, ON (10 km west of Arthur on 109, formerly Hwy 9, south on Sideroad 12 for ¼ km and east on Concession 16 for 1 km).

Join technical experts, equipment manufacturers and producers for demonstrations and discussions about improving precision manure application on your farm. The event will be emceed by OMAFRA corn specialist Greg Stewart.

12:30 – 1:30 pm View displays on the role of GPS, tire size, inflation pressure, flow meters and distributors for precision application

1:45 – 4:00 pm Live in-field demonstrations of various application equipment for liquid manure injection and solid manure systems

Estimates suggest that 2%–20% of feed on swine farms is wasted. Feed waste can be caused by many factors, starting at the bin through to the feeder. Trials show a range of 2%–5.8% of feed is wasted at the feeder— an average of approximately 3.4%. The design, size and adjustment of feeders all help control waste. Activation Laboratories Ltd Joins OMAFRA’s Accredited Soil Testing Program

Activation Laboratories Ltd. Ancaster, has recently been accredited under Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) “Accredited Soil Testing Program”.

They join seven other soil test laboratories currently accredited by OMAFRA:

Exova Accutest Laboratory, Nepean

SGS Agrifood Laboratories, Guelph

•  A&L Canada Laboratories Inc., London

Brookside Laboratories, New Knoxville, Ohio

FoReST Laboratory, Lakehead University, Thunder Bay

Stratford Agri Analysis, Stratford; and

University of Guelph Laboratory Services, Guelph.
